Welcome to our live coverage of WWE's Armageddon from the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh.
We're looking for your thoughts on tonight's show, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to dave@wrestlingobserver.com
MVP vs. Rey Mysterio for the U.S. title opens the show.
They were having a really good match, but after a huracanrana off the apron to the floor by Mysterio, they did a deal where MVP refused to get back in the ring by the count out 10. Mysterio won via count out but no title change. Good match but crap finish. Mysterio may have injured his knee. It went out at one point and it wasn't part of the match, but Mysterio continued even though he was moving gingerly for the rest of the match.
Kane & C.M. Punk vs. Big Daddy V & Mark Henry is up. Hopefully not for long.
They went 10:00. A lot better than you'd think. They worked a smart match, avoiding the back-and-forth stuff and most of the offense looked good. Finish saw Punk do a springboard, but V caught him on his shoulders and laid him out with a Samoan drop for the pin.
Vickie has set up an Edge victory party for tonight.
Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Kennedy Kennedy is up now.
Good match. Several near falls on reversals off each man's finisher. Story was that Michaels stomped on Kennedy's hand early. Kennedy punched Michaels later, sold his hand and Michaels hit the superkick for the pin in the middle.
HHH vs. Jeff Hardy is next.
Real good finish as Hardy countered the pedigree into a bridging cradle pin. Another good match. HHH played the veteran trying to get Hardy to fire up. The crowd heat wasn't really here, as HHH worked it for the crowd to get behind Hardy, but they didn't really choose either man. Strong show thus far.
Great Khali vs. Finlay is next.
Weakest match so far, but even this was better than it probably sounded on paper. Khali dominated. Behind the refs back, Hornswoggle gave Khali a low blow with a shillelagh, and then Finlay cracked Khali with a shillelagh and got the pin.
Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho for the WWE title is up next.
Jericho had the Boston crab on in the middle of the ring when JBL ran in and kicked Jericho in the head for a DQ. Up until the DQ it was the best match on the show. The set up spot is that Jericho went running at Orton on the floor, Orton moved and threw Jericho into JBL. Jericho shoved JBL before getting back in the match. Orton used an RKO after the match. Looks like JBL vs. Jericho is going to be a program.
Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James for the women's title is next.
They had no chance at this point in the show. Crowd was dead but they did nothing wrong and it was actually a well worked match. Phoenix was clean with the fishergirl suplex.
Batista vs. Edge vs. Undertaker for the World title. JBL is gone and Tazz is working with Michael Cole on the main event.
Edge won the championship. Two guys who looked like the Major Brothers dressed up as Edge and one of them was taken out. Undertaker and Batista wrestled as if Edge had been taken out. Undertaker gave Batista a tombstone piledriver. The real Edge then hit Undertaker in the back with a chair and then went for a chair shot to the head, and protected Taker completely on it. Edge then pinned Batista to win the championship. Seemed like the crowd was burned out by this point in the show.
No great matches, but one of the more balanced WWE shows with good action from start to finish.
